What is SEO in a nutshell?

Search engine optimization (SEO) is an ongoing process that improves the visibility and ranking of a website in search results for relevant keywords. The goal of SEO is to increase the amount of organic traffic to a website, which can lead to increased sales, leads and brand awareness.

SEO is important because it can help you get more visitors to your website. When your website appears higher up in search results, people are more likely to click on it.

To get started with SEO, you first need to understand how Google ranks websites. Google uses a number of factors to determine which websites should appear higher up in search results. These factors include:

  • The content on your website
  • The keywords you use
  • Links to your website from other websites

You can improve your website’s SEO by focusing on these factors.

Here are some specific tips on how to improve your website’s SEO:

  • Write content that is relevant to your target audience and uses the keywords they are interested in.
  • Build links to your website from other relevant websites.
  • Optimize your website’s code and structure

By following these tips, you can improve your website’s SEO and drive more visitors to your website.

Get ahead on search engines

Search engine optimization of websites or webshops is a combination of several different factors. Search engine optimization is often referred to as SEO in the industry and is a somewhat unclear area for many. We try to explain a little about what it is, how to do search engine optimization and how much it costs. Further down this page you can also find useful resources and an FAQ about SEO and what you can do to get ahead in the search engines.

Search Engine Optimization: What is it and how does it work?

So what exactly is search engine optimization?

Search engines like Google use algorithms to crawl, index and rank websites in search results. The algorithm takes into account a wide range of factors when ranking websites, including:

  • Relevance: How relevant is the content on the website to the user’s search?
  • Authority: How trustworthy and reliable is the website?
  • Usability: How easy is it to navigate the website and find the information you’re looking for?
  • Content quality: Is the content on the website well-written, informative and engaging?
  • Technical factors: Is the website technically optimized for search engines?

Search engine optimization is basically about following Google’s ‘rules’ to the letter in order to be presentable as a website and ‘earn’ free exposure on Google’s platform. Furthermore, it’s important to note that you should write to the user/searcher and not to the search engine. In the past, simply repeating the same word a million times was enough, but this was not at all optimal for visitors and Google cracked down on this with one of their major spam algorithms, which they are continuously adjusting and improving.

Broadly speaking, search engine optimization consists of several different elements that you can control yourself:

Content and texts

  • Website speed, this is included under technical search engine optimization
  • Internal linking
  • External links
  • Technical setup of the website

This is explained in very brief, there are of course a lot of other factors that come into play in the battle to get to the top of the search engine rankings. Google, for example, has over 200 algorithms that determine where you are placed on the coveted page 1, including how long the user stays on the page, how unique content you have on the page (not a good idea to copy/paste content from other people’s pages, which is also illegal), Core Web Vitals that determine how fast the page loads and renders.

In general, it’s purely a matter of addressing people when working with SEO, not search engines.

Content and SEO texts

Often it’s difficult to write your own texts, it often ends up being very nerdy and complex explanations that the visitor ultimately doesn’t understand, you can simply be too industry-colored, this happens to many. The art of copywriting is to make your texts relevant and sell, and our copywriters can help you do just that. Often the cost of the time spent on this is well spent and the texts will also be optimized for search engines.

As we mentioned before, it’s important to write for the user, not the search engines. Provide the user with answers to the questions they are looking for, possibly as an FAQ. You can benefit from using AI for text generation, AI’s like ex. Google Gemini. However, it is of course important to review these texts afterwards and not just use them uncritically.

What does search engine optimization cost?

Optimizing your content on all fronts can be a lot of work. In addition to updating your website according to Google’s criteria, your content should also be tailored to your target audience so that you primarily receive visits from relevant leads. This requires you to know your target audience, competitors and what they are searching for extremely well and have insight into what they are searching for. A keyword analysis and competitor analysis can reveal this.

From the start, we provide a fixed price for a search engine optimization process, and together we sit down to determine the actual number of hours it will take. It can be for a shorter or longer period of time. We continuously monitor the results of the optimization via our reporting tools, where are you on the current keywords at the start, where are we in 3 months. This is an important part of our SEO collaboration as documentation of our work.

What is the workflow when it comes to SEO?

Many SEO agencies have their own way of working when it comes to search engine optimization, each with their own way of working. To make a clear statement here, NO ONE has the final answer on how to get on page 1 and certainly not in the top 3, the agencies that promise this should be avoided, we at Flash Marketing can’t promise this either, but we follow Google’s guidelines and already there you are far. As mentioned before, it’s a matter of creating useful content that answers the questions a searcher may have, as well as having a website that is user-friendly, secure and, not least, fast.

As a starting point, we work in the following way in the process of our search engine optimization work:
